Nuts
Nuts are nature’s way of reminding us that good things come in small packages.” – Karen Salmansohn
It’s TRUE!
🔸Nuts being small in size, are handy, easy-to-go, convenient power-packed snacks which can be a great addition to a healthy renal diet by promoting a plethora of health benefits such as:
- Gut Health
- Heart Health
- Brain Health
- Blood Sugar Control
- It has Arginine (a better substitute for animal protein)
- High in Antioxidants, Vitamins & Minerals.
🔸But for people with chronic kidney disease, an unrecommended number of nuts and seeds may not be ideal. Several nuts and seeds have high potassium and phosphorus content which may only worsen kidney health.
So, it’s important to have the right amount of potassium and phosphorus in your diet to avoid overwhelming the ability of your kidneys to maintain healthy levels.
🔸We can help you choose the right amounts, each day which will depend on your CKD stage, type of renal disease or the type of dialysis you receive.
🌟A recent, 2022 study, recommends the CKD population have an adequate intake of nuts 1-6 times per week (with a renal dietitian’s advice; preferably about a handful once a day).
🔸It is not important to have all the nuts mentioned. Prefer nuts as per your geographical location; else today everything is available online. Just a click away !!!
